Lux Helsinki special traffic arrangements

The Lux Helsinki light festival will extend to the Kansalaistori square and the Etu-Töölö district from Saturday 5 January to Wednesday 9 January 2019. The light installations can be viewed daily from 5pm to 10pm, and two installations can also be seen during Lux Morning on Wednesday 9 January from 7am to 9am. The festival is expected to attract over half a million visitors.

Special traffic arrangements will be in place throughout the festival for public transport, private cars and cyclists. Traffic in the area will be guided by signposts and traffic controllers.

Kansalaistori square and Baana are closed from bike traffic 5–9 January at 4.30pm to 10.15 pm between Runeberginkatu and Töölönlahdenkatu. In the area of ​​Töölönlahti, cycling takes place at that time through Alvar Aallon katu, Karamzininranta is closed. You cannot cycle through the Kansalaistori Square at that time.

The festival will also limit the amount of parking available in the area, but temporary parking facilities will be made available for local residents with F-parking permits at Mäntymäki from 31 December 2018 to 11 January 2019. Driving in the area should be avoided as much as possible during the festival. If local residents have cars parked in their courtyards, they will be guided by traffic controllers. The closed festival area is also off limits to taxis during the festival.

Some of the light installations along the Lux Helsinki route utilise sound effects, which will be tested before the festival on 2-4 January.
